Marche Maubert

Location: Place Maubert, Paris 5

Metro stop: Maubert-Mutualite

Open: 8.30am-1pm Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

I recommend the: Chocolate/cocoa coated Walnuts, La Chinata Trufa (Truffle oil), mysterious salad green, and the precooked beetroot.

Notes: This is a small to medium sized market that sells food and other items. In one of the corner spots there are two men that sell walnut products and truffle oil (La Ferme de Nineyrolles). Both are passionate about their products, are really lovely and let you have samples. I LOVED their bitter chocolate/cocoa covered walnuts called ‘Noix du Perigord enrobees de chocolat noir’, they were incredible. I also loved the truffle oil and bought a bottle home so that we can savour the taste of France from time to time. It's fantastic poured over fresh mozzarella.

There is another stall with a man who sells salad greens of every variety (see pic below). There was one leaf that I would love to know the name of, it’s strange looking and I have not been able to identify it since trying it, and I loved it. If you go to this market, can you please please have a go at finding this herb/salad green for me. The French name for it is just fine. It’s green and looks like a sea grass, is very fresh and crunchy in texture, quite like a mung bean sprout.

Precooked beetroot are fairly common, but a great addition to lunch or dinner and so easy cause all you need to do is cut them up and eat them.
